How to go Auto Shopping at a Government Auction!

Posted on April 25th, 2009 by Lindsey Harper

There are many ways to buy a used car. The normal way is to go to a used vehicle dealership. However, one of the most important considerations you are likely to have is price. A government auction offers incredible prices that you don’t want to pass up.

If you want to buy a used car, you’re going to want to take a look at government fleet vehicles. These are vehicles you will find at a government auction.

You may never have thought about bidding on a government fleet vehicle. However, these vehicles have been retired and are in good condition. The government needs to get rid of vehicles so that they can make room for more. So, that means low prices for you!

Auto shopping at a government auction will put you in touch with some very attractive cars. This classic 4 door sedan could be yours. I found it at a GSA Fleet Sale to be held on May 13 in Fredericksburg, VA. This is just one of the many cars that will be available for auction beginning at 10:00 a.m. Go to the link below to join Government Auction Network and learn more about this auction:

Buying A Good Car At A Government Automobile Auction

seized cars auction

If you want get a good car during a government automobile auction, you need to do your homework well. Always remember that you will not be the only person who will be bidding during the government seized auction so you should be well prepared for the competition. Never be complacent about anything. It doesn’t matter if you have been to many auctions before or if you have participated in previous automobile auctions in your location as that is not really an assurance that you will get what you want this time. The key to getting a good automobile during an auction is to be very vigilant.

Determine The Quality Before Placing Your Bid

Careful planning is very important if you want to join a seized cars auction. First, you will need to determine the mileage and history of the car. The auction administrator should be able to provide you with this information. Why do you need to know the history of the car? Cars that have not been property maintained by their previous owners will most likely have more problems compared to those cars that have been well maintained. Furthermore, cars that have been involved in accidents in the past will most likely have more internal problems compared to those cars that have not been involved in accidents. Always remember that accidents, even if not so violent as to wreck the car completely will always affect the condition of the car. The jarring that the car received during the accident will most likely affect some of its internal parts in some ways. Although these defects may not manifest themselves right away, sooner or later, these defects will later on show.

Aside from learning about the history and mileage of the car, you should also make it a point to physically inspect the car before the auction. In most cases, the cars will be available for viewing about two days before the automobile auction is schedule so go to the display center and inspect the car thoroughly. To make certain all is working well with the windows and doors, you must open and close them and look/listen for problems. Look under the car find out if there are no leaks. Be alert of any newly painted parts because that could be a sign that the owner is trying to cover something.

To determine how much you will bid on particular car during an automobile auction, ask an expert to take a look at the car first. The expert should be able to give you a good idea as to whether or not the car is reasonably priced.

Auctions, An American Tradition

Today it is hard to imagine anything that is not sold at auction.  A personal property auctioneer helps people dispose of items that can be picked up and moved, like antiques and collectibles.

If you have not tested the waters and attended an auction, let me ask you, Why Not?  Auctions are fun and are currently a popular way to sell goods and make some great buys.  Here are some tips to make your day at the auction a good experience.

If the name of the estate being auctioned is advertised, the auction is probably a bonafide estate sale offering interesting items coming to the marketplace for the first time.  But, sometimes the auctioneer can be asked not to advertise the estate name.  If the words “with additions” are found in the ad, this would indicate that other consignment items have been added to the estate sale items.  The auction house may post pictures of auction items on their website.  In fact, on-line Internet auctions can be combined very successfully with the live auction.  If you have any questions about the set up of the auction, call the auction house for further information.

Is the auction advertised as an absolute auction or an auction with no minimums and no reserves?  That means that if the auctioneer takes a bid he must continue auctioning the item finalizing the sale at the highest level he can attain.  On the other hand, a reserve auction indicates that there is a minimum bid that the seller will accept.  Is a buyer’s premium advertised?  If so, there will be a percentage added to your bill when you check out.  The typical buyer’s premium is 10%.   Note what forms of payment are accepted and understand that state sales tax will be added to your bill unless you have a current dealer’s resale certificate to present.

Go to the auction preview to examine the condition of auction items.  The auctioneer may point out the condition of an item but it is the bidder’s responsibility to take advantage of the preview.  Register early to be ready to hear the auctioneer’s comments before the sale begins on how the auction is to be handled.  See if there is a list of the items to be auctioned.  Make notes on the list, marking items that you may wish to bid on.

The auctioneer will be on the “block”, meaning he is in front of and higher than the crowd.  The clerk works with the auctioneer recording all bids.  If the live auction is combined with an Internet auction, there will also be an Internet administrator.  There are usually spotters that help the auctioneer see everyone that wishes to bid.  A director works with the ground crew and determines the order that items are brought up for sale.  In the Internet/live auction pictures of items up for bid may be projected on a screen for the audience to see.

A good auctioneer wants you to understand what he is saying.   The auctioneer’s chatter is only a series of filler words that join the bid that he has on an item with the bid he is looking for on that same item.  Position yourself so that the auctioneer can easily see you and don’t be tentative about bidding.  Help the auctioneer know when you are bidding.  He is not going to hold you responsible for a bid if you scratch your head.  If a bid is made inadvertently, speak up immediately saying that you were not bidding.  The auction firm may issue you a bid paddle instead of a bid card.  The paddle is usually larger and can help avoid any confusion about bidding.

It’s a good idea to bring a folding chair in case seating is limited and boxes and packing can help you protect any small treasures on which you might be the successful bidder.  Food might not be available so bringing water and a power bar will keep you going if you find you simply cannot leave the auction until a certain item is offered or you wish to stay to the very end.   Items for auction can be brought up in listed order or randomly brought up.  If items are being brought up randomly, you may be able to request that an item be brought up for auction.

Who knows, you might enjoy the auction experience enough to become a regular!

Logan and Richard Adams are the owners of The Specialists of the South in Panama City, FL.  Richard is an Auctioneer.  They hold auctions in Panama City regularly and also hold Online Auctions.

Auction Inspector Review – How To Find Best Selling Items On Ebay

Have you ever wondered how people who sell on ebay make money? It is a known fact that eBay is a huge marketplace with millions of products for sale. However, not all products sell like hot cakes on ebay.

Some products just aren´t popular and there isn´t a great demand for it no matter what the price is.

On the other hand, some products are highly sought after and ebay buyers will often snap them up even if the prices are sky high. For example, when the xbox 360 was first launched and there was a shortage of xbox360 available in stores, many people flocked to ebay to try and outbid one another to buy an xbox 360.

I can tell you the sellers who were selling xbox 360 on ebay then were absolutely making a killing. The same thing is happening with the Nintendo wii recently.

As an ebay seller, if you know the kind of products that can sell well on ebay, then you can be almost guaranteed of profits. However, ebay don´t necessarily provide that information easily on their website.

Although Ebay Pulse does provide some sort of competitive intelligence into what people are buying on ebay, it isn´t detailed enough.

Auction Inspector can fill in that gap. It is basically a software that that analyses posts on the “want it now” section of ebay. It then shows you the most wanted products people are looking for on ebay.

All you have to do then as an ebay seller is to find a wholesaler or dropshipping who carries that product and list it on ebay for profit.

Besides analyzing the “want it now” ebay section, it also analyses the profit potential of a product by comparing it with the number of requests and the number of sellers who are selling that product.

So what auction inspector is good at is finding products that are being wanted by buyers and there is very little ebay sellers selling it.

Sure, you can do this manually as well by hand but it is tedious and I am sure you have other more important business issues to handle than flipping through hundreds of ebay pages.

If you want to find the best selling items on ebay automatically, i recommend you check out my Auction Inspector review. Learn how to find items in high demand on ebay with my Auction Inspector review.

Types of eBay Auctions

Over the years, eBay has introduced different auction types in an effort to give people more options when they buy and sell their things on eBay. There are many people who don’t like the idea that their item might sell for a far lower price than they intend.. It is exactly like SEO; top seo services aim to get the best website design and have a good amount of web traffic for their sites. Equally, there are people who have so many of the same items and don’t want to sell them individually. This email gives you an overview of the different kinds of auctions and how to spot them.

Normal Auctions.

These are the primary moneymakers of eBay, the auctions everyone knows: you bid, others outbid you, you outbid them, and the winner gets the item. Simple right?

Reserve Auctions.

This type of auction are for sellers who don’t want their items to sell for less than a certain price - a concept you’ll know about if you’re familiar with real auctions. They’re just like the normal auctions on eBay, however, you will be told if your bid has not met the reserve price set by the seller. If no-one is willing to meet this price, then the auction is cancelled, and the seller keeps the item.

You can spot these auctions by looking out for ‘Reserve not met’ or ‘Reserve met’ written next to the current bid on an item’s description page..

Fixed Price (’Buy it Now’) Auctions.

This type of auction can work in one of two ways. A seller might add a Buy it Now button to a normal auction, which means that you can choose either to bid normally or simply pay the amount and avoid the whole bidding process. Some sellers, though, now cut out the auction process altogether and simply list all their items at fixed price. Recently, eBay added a twist to fixed price auctions: the ‘best offer’. This means that now have the option of negotiating a  price to someone who offers their items using Buy it Now, which could be a good way to get a bargain on things that don’t seem to be selling.

Fixed price auctions are easy to spot, as they have a little ‘Buy it Now’ logo either next to or instead of the current number of bids on the search listings page.

Multiple Item (’Dutch’) Auctions.

These auctions are where a seller is selling two or more than one of a certain item. Dutch actions are usually done by bidding. Buyers bid a price and say how many items they want, and then everyone pays the lowest price that was bid by one of the winning bidders.. If you’re having a hard time understanding this type, don’t worry, everyone else does too! These auctions are very rare.

What is more common is when a seller has a lot of one item, and lists it using a combination of two auction types: a multiple-item fixed price auction. This means that they  say how many they have and offer them at a fixed price. You can enter how many you want and then just click Buy it Now to get them.

After all this, you might find yourself facing a dilemma: when you have the option, should you bid, or should you just use Buy it Now and save yourself the hassle? That’s what the next email will be about.
